Analysis Models
Every performance report is computed with an analysis model. New analyses use the latest model by default. An analysis can be recomputed using a different model at any time. The models are labeled with a name and a version number, and are named after legendary mountain passes, for example Galibier (v4.2) or Ventoux (v3.1).
The latest model: Galibier (v4.2)
The Galibier model is based on a larger pool of source data and uses a more sophisticated method to model energy demand, particularly carbohydrate demand. Here, the model is able to make more realistic predictions across the entire range of intensities.
In addition, the model achieves greater accuracy when predicting core performance values such as VO2max, the anaerobic threshold and VLamax. However, the differences between the Ventoux (v3.1) and Galibier (v4.2) models in terms of these values are minimal, so training zones and other derived metrics are barely affected. The Galibier (v4.2) model provides more realistic predictions for carbohydrate and fat demand, which can differ from the values of the Ventoux (v3.1) model.
Why carbohydrate demand is shown as a range
When using the Galibier model, carbohydrate and fat demand are shown as a range around the most likely value. How much fat versus carbohydrate are actually metabolised depends on your fuelling state (for example fed versus fasted) but also on other factors such as temperature.
Switching between models
On any of your analyses, open the "more options" menu and choose "Switch Analysis Model". Pick Ventoux (v3.1) or Galibier (v4.2) and confirm the selection.
The adjustment of the analysis model can be useful to ensure an unbiased comparability with analyses performed earlier or to take advantage of the improved capabilities of a newer model.
